Sighisoara est une petite ville avec un centre médiéval très bien conservé. Les rues pavées sont bordées de maisons peintes, évoquant la Hongrie ou l’Allemagne.

Sighisoara is a small town with a well-preserved medieval center  The cobbled streets are lined with painted houses, evoking Hungary or Germany.

  

  

C’est aussi ici que nous avons rencontré le « Dracula business » ! il se trouve que le modèle de Bram Stoker pour son roman, Vlad Tepes Dracul, est né ici. C’était en fait un chef de guerre roumain, qui s’est battu contre les turcs. Très cruel avec ses ennemis-surnommé l’empaleur-, il valait mieux ne pas tomber entre ses mains !

It is also here that we met the  » Dracula business « !  Vlad Dracul Tepes was born here. He was the model for Bram Stoker’s novel. He was actually a Romanian warlord who fought against the Turks. Very cruel with his enemies – nicknamed the impaler-, it was better not to fall into his hands !

Tout ici est prétexte à déclinaison sur ce thème ! T shirts, mugs, dents de vampires en plastique, masques de zombies, épées en plastique bordées de rouge, tapis de souris, pseudos instruments de torture, etc…

Everything here is a pretext for a variation on this theme ! T shirts, mugs, plastic vampire teeth, zombie masks, plastic swords lined with red, mouse pads, fake instruments of torture, etc …

Après Sighisoara, direction la grande ville de Brasov. De belles places et rues piétonnes, des immeubles de couleurs, et la plus grande église gothique, luthérienne, entre Vienne et Istanbul. Elle est un peu lourdingue, quand même !

After Sighisoara, we headed towards the large city of Brasov. Beautiful squares and pedestrian streets, with coloured buildings, and the largest Gothic church , Lutheran, between Vienna and Istanbul. It is a little clumsy, to tell the truth !

  

Et il n’y a pas qu’à Limoges qu’on trouve des pubs-bibliothèque !

20 km au sud de Brasov s’élève le château de Bran. Là aussi, on est en plein folklore draculesque. Vlad Tepes y aurait passé une nuit. Le bâtiment est très impressionnant sur son rocher, mais il a surtout été habité comme résidence d’été des rois de Roumanie au XIXème siècle.

20 km south of Brasov rises Bran Castle. Again, we are right in the middle of draculesque folklore. Vlad Tepes is said to have stayed there overnight. The building is very impressive on his rock , but it was mainly inhabited as summer residence of the kings of Romania in the nineteenth century.

Après une  nuit au Vampire camping, on a pris peur : non pas à cause d’éventuels fantômes mais plutôt à cause des dizaines de stands de draculeries dans la ville et autour du château, et des cars de touristes. On est partis en courant sans le visiter, direction plein sud vers Bucarest en traversant la chaîne des Carpates.

After a night at the so-called Vampire camping, we got scared : not because of any ghosts but because of the dozens of stalls of Draculabilia in the city and around the castle and also because of the numerous tourist buses. We ran away  from them without visiting the castle, heading south to Bucharest, crossing the Carpathian Mountains. 

Eh oui, nous sommes en juillet et le temps où nous visitions des sites sans le moindre touriste est terminé. Il va falloir s’y habituer !

Obviously,  we are in July and the time when we visited the sites without any tourists around  is over. We’ll have to get used to it  !
