Notre dernier jour en Bulgarie a été très varié. La matinée a été consacrée à un atelier plomberie pour déboucher l’évier du camping car. Nous savons maintenant comment dire « siphon »  en Bulgare, même si cela sera sans doute difficile à replacer un jour dans une conversation.

Our last day in Bulgaria was very varied . The morning was devoted to a plumbing workshop for unblocking the sink of the camper. We now know how to say  » siphon  » in Bulgarian, although this may be difficult to place one day in a conversation

Belogradchik est une petite ville au confins de la Bulgarie, de la Serbie et de la Roumanie. A l’ouest, la chaine de Stara Planina sert de frontière avec la Serbie, et au nord commence la plaine du Danube et la Roumanie. Entre les deux, un massif de grès rouge sculpté par l’érosion et un paysage étonnant.

Belogradchik is a small town on the borders of Bulgaria, Serbia and Romania . To the west The Stara Planina range forms the border with Serbia, and in the north begin the Danube plain and Romania. In between,  red sandstone hills, carved by erosion have created an amazing scenery .

 

  

Après un pique nique dans ce décor, il nous restait une cinquantaine de kms avant la frontière, par une petite route. Sur la carte, un symbole indiquait au milieu de nulle part une grotte. Aucun guide n’en parlait. Par curiosité, on a fait le détour par une route bien fatiguée.

After a picnic in this setting , we still had about fifty kms before the border, on a small road . On the map , a symbol indicated a cave in the middle of nowhere. No guide ever mentionned it . Out of curiosity, we made the detour through a very bad road.

Et là, surprise : une immense grotte, longue de 2 km ! Des salles de 30m de haut et autant de large se succèdent le long du chemin aménagé et vaguement éclairé. Nous étions bien évidemment seuls, à part un petit chat blanc qui nous a suivi en ronronnant sur tout le parcours.

And there, surprise : a huge cave , 2 km long ! 30m high halls and as wide, one after the other, along a path . Of course, we were the only visitors, except for a small white cat that followed us, purring all the way .

 

Nous avons fini la journée près d’un petit monastère caché dans les contreforts de la Stara planina, près de la frontière au milieu des rosiers sauvages, seuls au monde, à part comme voisine une bonne sœur toute en noir, réplique féminine de pope – sans la barbe quand même – Un oiseau insomniaque, tout en trilles et roucoulades (un rossignol ?) nous a accompagné jusque tard dans la nuit.

We ended the day near a little monastery hidden in the foothills of the Stara Planina, near the border, in the middle wild roses, alone in the world apart from a nun, all in black, female replica of a pope – except for the beard -and  an insomniac bird,  trilling and cooing ( a nightingale ? ) accompanied us late into the night .
